ABOUT

“It gives me such pleasure to extend my decades-long collaboration with these gifted artisans, who have translated my vision to couture embroideries and now to intricately enhanced canvases. These works weave together my passion for classical art and artisan technique, breathing new life into raw metallic beading materials and embroidery work. Together we are telling timeless stories through needle and thread, bead and brush,” Veena Advani

My Story

Veena Advani creates layered, abstract paintings that explore themes of relationship, identity and the natural world. Her signature mixed media works often integrate traditional hand embroidery techniques refined as a fabric designer and embellisher to global fashion houses.

Veena studied textile design at Sir JJ School of Art in Mumbai before moving to New York to launch her acclaimed design business, collaborating on bespoke designs for brands including Geoffrey Beene, Badgley Mischka, Isaac Mizrahi and Lanvin. Her couture embroidery designs have appeared in runway shows and red carpet looks across the globe.

During this time, she also established a subsidiary business as a developer of property in Goa, India; designing, building, furnishing and selling luxury villas. Her eye for color, material and composition found further outlet in interior design, with a portfolio of published projects to her credit.

Recently Veena returned to Mumbal and to painting, creating striking abstract works with textural elements. She explains “Unlike fully embroidered tapestries, my paintings weave my passion for classical art and artisan technique, breathing new life into raw metallic beading materials and embroidery. I want to create something that feels modern, while rooted in traditional craft; both elemental and transporting”

Veena’s paintings have been exhibited in leading galleries and are held in private collections throughout India and the United States.
